About Me

My name is Phoebe and I am a New Zealand based artist. I create highly detailed realistic pet portraits using colour pencil and pastel. I always think it’s a privilege to be able to connect with this world and empathize with our nature through art; it was lucky that I can combine my love of animals and my passion of drawings during my art journey.

Being influenced by my grandfather as an oil painting and sculpture artist, I started to learn drawing since age of 7 and had the opportunity to practice with different mediums. From pencil to acrylic, from landscape sketch to portrait drawings, my passion to capture the emotions and spirit in my artwork has never changed. When I came to New Zealand at the age of 18, I completed my bachelor’s degree in digital communication, studying computer graphic and filmography. My journey since then has been varied having worked as a freelance contractor, visual effect artist, salesperson, operation specialist, business analyst and IT architect.

While trying to settle in Aotearoa, I realized that drawings has already become an integral part of me. Whenever there is spare time, I would always pick up the pencil/stylus and “escape” to the art world. My passion of art has supported my mental wellbeing enormously throughout the years.

Eventually I started my first sketch drawing of a Birman cat while I was pet sitting, followed by the second pet portrait, and the third… … and I have not stopped since then.

I strive to capture the uniqueness and emotions of each animal, and I always love to explore their stories behind every portrait. I am always fascinated with the process of bringing my drawing object to life from scratch on a blank canvas.
